President: Phil Mills, MD

Phil Mills, MD

Phil Mills, MD recently obtained board certification in dermatology after practicing physical medicine and rehabilitation for many years. He has moved to Grants Pass, Oregon where he joined a dermatology practice.

Dr. Mills has had a passion for medical evangelism since he was a teenager. He felt the call to evangelism when he was 14 reading the book, Evangelism . The call was further focused in college reading the book, Medical Ministry . Throughout his life Mills has found the greatest joy comes from winning souls. Nothing else compares. He believes AMEN will assist us in learning how to reach our colleagues, our staff, our patients, our families, our churches, our communities, the world. His dream is that the Holy Spirit will fall on us and that the journal and the annual meetings will be the spiritual and professional highlight of our year.

Dr. Mills is married to Sherry and they have three children.

Secretary: Raja Tooma, MD

Raja Tooma, MD

Dr. Raja Tooma is board certified in Family Medicine. She currently practices in Fontana, California and serves as Medical Director/President of United FamilyCare.

Dr. Tooma has a passion for Christ and for sharing His love with her patients! She is also dedicated to overseas missions. Dr. Tooma joined the AMEN board in 2006. She was inspired by AMEN's first conference held in San Diego in 2005. Since that time she has been praying with almost all her patients! God has worked many miracles through Dr. Tooma's willingness to follow His leading not only in her personal life but in her professional life as well.

Treasurer: John Chung, MD

John Chung, MD

John Chung, MD is a board certified dermatologist specializing in skin cancer surgery. He has a private practice in Dalton, Georgia .

Dr. Chung has a passion for medical evangelism and is delighted to be involved with AMEN. He feels that “as physicians we are in a unique position to spread the gospel as daily we come in contact with people in need.”

One of Chung's greatest desires is to create a practice that is driven by a strong desire to reach the hearts of his patients for Christ rather than being focused on making money.

Dr. Chung is married to Linda. They have a daughter and two sons. Dr. Chung is an artist at heart; he enjoys painting and drawing. During his free time he also finds time for reading, traveling and giving Bible studies.

Lorayne Barton, MD, MPH

Lorayne Barton, MD, MPH

Dr. Barton practices Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine and Pediatrics in Southern California . She is also board certified in Preventive Medicine and is very interested in promoting health evangelism through speaking to churches, lifestyle seminars and using the media. She serves as Adjunct Associate Professor for Health Promotion and Education at Loma Linda University School of Public Health.

Dr. Barton joined the AMEN board in 2005. She has great enthusiasm for health evangelism and using television as a medium to spread the gospel of Christ and the Adventist Health message. She is very involved with AMEN-TV, helping them develop top quality health education television programs.

Dr. Barton is married to Lynn and they have 4 sons and 5 grandchildren. They are interested in many outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, photography, bird watching and traveling and in promoting ASI activities. Lorayne is currently Pacific Union ASI president.

David Catalano, MD

David Catalano, MD

Dr. David Catalano is a radiation oncologist from Oregon in transition to Florida . He runs Radiation Medicine Consultants, a locum tenens corporation covering California, Oregon, and soon-to-be in Florida .

Dr. Catalano has outstanding fervor for medical missionary work. He joined the AMEN board in 2006 and serves as AMEN's mission project coordinator. He has traveled to numerous countries around the world sharing both his medical expertise and his love of Jesus. Although the trips are challenging, Dr. Catalano always feels that the blessing he receives is far greater than that which he bestows.

Dr. Catalano recently married Debbi and they will set up their new home in the Orlando, Florida area.

Todd Guthrie, MD, PC

Todd Guthrie, MD, PC

Dr. Todd Guthrie is a board certified orthopedic surgeon, practicing in Mt. Shasta, California.

Dr. Guthrie sees AMEN as a catalyst to further facilitate the bringing together of the everlasting gospel of Revelation 14:6–12 and the Adventist health message. He firmly believes that medical missionary evangelism will open hearts in preparation for and in conjunction with the outpouring of God’s Spirit in the final days of earth’s history. Dr. Guthrie currently chairs the AMEN Media project subcommittee.

Dr. Guthrie, his wife, Patti, and their four children have been involved for years in ministry in their local church, and abroad. The Guthrie family especially enjoys doing music ministry together.

Naren James, MD

Naren James, MD

Naren James, MD owns and operates Bluegrass Clinic providing family medicine and obstetrical services in Stanford and Liberty, Kentucky . Dr. James has a burden for medical evangelism; the mission statement for his practice includes integration of a spiritual component to the medical care he and his staff provide.

Dr. James is one of the founders of AMEN. During his morning devotional God impressed him to share his experience with other physicians and create a network to encourage each other. Dr. James states, “I firmly believe that physicians and dentists can make an incredible impact around the world if we truly begin to make medical evangelism the focus of our practices.”

Dr. James is married to Hannah and they have a daughter, Shanti. When he can catch a moment of free time Dr. James enjoys the outdoors—especially jogging and swimming.

Wendell Lawrence, DDS

Wendell Lawrence, DDS

Dr. Wendell Lawrence has more than 26 years of experience as a dentist. He has established an extensive practice in Southfield, Michigan offering cutting edge preventive dental care with an emphasis on non-surgical periodontics and cosmetic dentistry.

Dr. Lawrence often collaborates with the Michigan conference of Seventh-day Adventists providing medical evangelistic efforts to the greater Detroit community. Dr. Lawrence also has a passion for mentoring medical and dental students for the more important task of saving souls. He wants to help students catch a clear vision for ministry, and how it can impact their ability to tap into God's abundant blessings, and how it can significantly change the lives of those they treat, for the kingdom of God .

Dr. Lawrence is married to Linda and they have one daughter.

Carlos Moretta, DDS

Dr. Carlos Moretta is Chief Resident of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Loma Linda University Medical Center. In 1992, he completed a degree in Dental Hygiene, in Michigan, which he practiced while taking prerequisite courses for Dental School. He completed a Doctor of Dental Surgery in 2001 at Loma Linda University. After this he worked briefly in private practice and was a part-time faculty member at Loma Linda University School of Dentistry. In 2003, he began his training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at his dental school alma mater. He'd be the first to admit, he's been in school forever, but God is faithful and will bring it to completion soon! He is married to Dafne who is an ICU nurse and is in her second year of Medical School at LLU.

Dr. Moretta has always been a missionary. In his first year of dental school alone, he went on 8 missionary trips including trips to Mexico and Brazil. Since then, he has gone on medical missionary trips to the Dominican Republic and also Bangladesh(which is his most recent project). He believes strongly in the church effort in the 10/40 window and has a passion to be a part of the generation that spreads the gospel worldwide and ushers in the the Lord's kingdom. AMEN holds these interests as foundation and that's why getting involved was a natural fit for Dr. Moretta. Additionally, Dr. Moretta is active in getting young doctors and future doctors to plug into this ministry on the campus of Loma Linda University.

Neil Nedley, MD

Neil Nedley, MD

Neil Nedley, M.D., is a full-time practicing physician in Internal Medicine with emphasis in Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Preventive Medicine, Mental Health, and the difficult-to-diagnose patient. Dr. Nedley is a highly acclaimed speaker and author. His seminars & publications focus on the relationship between nutrition, lifestyle, and health. His latest book, Depression—The Way Out explains his twenty week cure (no dependence on drugs or counseling) that has helped many feel great while achieving optimal mental performance.

Dr. Nedley has a passion for soul winning. He has been instrumental in the baptism of 6 patients and one employee. Dr. Nedley hopes AMEN will help physicians and dentists increase their emphasis on combining acute medical work with lifestyle medicine for the purpose of saving souls.

Dr. Nedley lives with his wife, Erica, and their four boys on a 100-acre ranch in Oklahoma.

Michael Orlich, MD

Michael Orlich, MD

Michael Orlich, MD is board-certified in Family Medicine and has experience in Lifestyle Medicine. After finishing residency in 2004, he served for 2 years as a staff physician at the NEWSTART® Medical Clinic of Weimar Institute. He currently serves as acting Academic Dean of Weimar College and as an urgent care physician for Sutter Medical Group.

Dr. Orlich states, “I have always wanted to be involved in spiritual ministry and mission service. As a medical student and resident in secular institutions, I longed to have mentorship in how to really link medicine and the gospel commission. I believe AMEN fills a unique need to network like-minded physicians and dentists, providing both training and encouragement as we seek to serve God through the medical work.”

Dr. Orlich is intimately involved in extra-curricular ministries such as AMEN and the Generation of Youth for Christ (GYC). His interests include international missions, nutrition & wellness, history, travel, and the outdoors.

Advisor to the AMEN Board, Mark Finley, MA

Mark Finley, MA

Pastor Mark Finley has been involved in Christian ministry for more than 35 years—preaching, teaching, offering spiritual growth workshops and presenting healthful lifestyle lectures. Finley currently serves as a vice president for the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. In this role he continues to focus on evangelism and Adventist television.

Finley has had a passion for medical evangelism since the beginning of his ministry. He often partners with physicians who conduct health lectures as a part of his evangelistic meetings. Pastor Finley says of AMEN, “The New Testament presents a Jesus who is interested in the physical, mental, spiritual and emotional aspects of life. The newly formed Adventist Medical Evangelism Network is an innovative opportunity for physicians and dentists to follow in the footsteps of the master.”

Pastor Finley is married to Ernestine, his partner in life and ministry, and they have three children.
